BETWEEN 1996-2001Mike and June Jones explored many programs across the country for their daughter. They could not find anything to meet her needs so they founded Home Place of Texas in 2002 as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation. To meet the unique needs of their daughter, the Jones established a Community Bible Study in 2002, Residential Program from 2007-2019, and Day Habilitation Program in 2008 located in Spring, Texas.

Our PLANResearch shows an enormous lack of continuing secondary education opportunities for graduates with special needs. Therefore, Home Place’s master plan calls for a comprehensive life experience that includes education, socialization, employment, support, and spiritual growth. Throughout June's 36 years of experience, she and Mike have specifically designed Home Place for higher functioning adults with special needs.

I started working at Home Place in 2018. In December of 2020, we adopted our son, Julian and I chose to stay home with him full-time. I was so glad to return to work in August of 2022. I received my Masters degree in Speech Pathology from Nazareth College of Rochester, New York. When I’m not at Home Place, I enjoy being Julian’s adventure buddy, teaching ESL classes at my church and cooking for my family and friends. My favorite thing about Home Place is the relationships we build with each person who attends. I enjoy getting to know them and how they learn best. One fun fact about me is I have four children and there are 24 years between the oldest and the youngest!

Kelly Peterson
PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Kelly Peterson is not new to Home Place, but is a new addition to our HPOTx family. She holds a Bachelors Degree of Science in Gerontology and a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis in Special Education, both from the University of North Texas. She, her two sons, Major and Gage, and Lola the Labrador are residents of Champion Forest. Major is attending LSU and Gage is a student at Klein High School. Kelly has been our dance teacher for almost four years now and when an opening became available, she jumped at the chance to join the HPOTX family. She fondly remembers attending a parent meeting in 2019 where she came to introduce herself to the families and clients and to discuss her approach in adaptive dance. “I remember sitting on the back row and thinking to myself what a special place this was and how much I wanted to make an impact here.”
