our mission.

We are committed to excellence through a structured learning environment. Our hope is to create a purposeful life centered around Christ. We teach adults with disabilities that God loves them and has a plan for them.

BETWEEN 1996-2001

Mike and June Jones explored many programs across the country for their daughter.  They could not find anything to meet her needs so they founded Home Place of Texas in 2002 as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation.  To meet the unique needs of their daughter, the Jones established a Community Bible Study in 2002, Residential Program from 2007-2019, and Day Habilitation Program in 2008 located in Spring, Texas.

Our PLAN

Research shows an enormous lack of continuing secondary education opportunities for graduates with special needs. Therefore, Home Place’s master plan calls for a comprehensive life experience that includes education, socialization, employment, support, and spiritual growth.  Throughout June's 36 years of experience, she and Mike have specifically designed Home Place for higher functioning adults with special needs.

KIM DEGNAN
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Kim graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2007 with a degree in psychology. She began her career at Home Place in 2008 as a residential supervisor. "I love Home Place because it provides a place for people with disabilities to feel safe, and just be themselves, free of judgement." When she's not working, Kim loves spending time with her husband and dog, and watching football. (Go Ducks!) She is an active member of The Junior League of The Woodlands, loves Lilly Pulitzer, and all things pink!

JASON PAULK

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Jason and his wife, Sandra, have been involved with Home Place's vision for over 5 years.  He has worked with this population for over 8 years (at least) with Tri-County, Klein ISD, and has been with Home Place ever since.  He, along with a former associate began the "The Best Friday Ever" which has evolved into a weekly tradition. Karaoke and Pizza Fridays are his favorite!  On his time off, he likes to visit family in Corpus Christi, take long walks on the beach with his daughter, Addison, and son, Ethan, and swim with dolphins.  He roots for Auburn football but knows in his heart that Texas A&M is the better University.  "Go Aggies!"

EMA WOOTEN

Program Coordinator

In January 2015 I began at Home Place as a receptionist and then transitioned into the Day Program in September 2017.  My favorite thing about working at Home Place is goofing around with the clients. I love playing with them! I also enjoy leading the clients in SCART projects and small group activities. I am currently attending the University of Houston Downtown with hopes to obtain a Bachelor of Social Work. When I am not at work or completing homework, I enjoy doing anything creative. I love calligraphy, painting, and decorating. I also enjoy meal prepping and strength training at the gym. A fun fact about me is that I jumped out of the only plane I’ve ever been on!

Kelly VAncamp
Admininstrative assistant

Growing up Kelly was raised to treat every person as a person, no matter their differences. So when God opened the door to Home Place she was overjoyed to join the team. Before joining HPOTx Kelly spent the previous seven years working with young children. This adventure allowed her to work with her own two children, Serenity and Gabriel. She is a Jack of all trades, from crafting, working on cars, to doing hair and taking pictures, there is not a lot she won't try. Kelly and her husband Chris are active members of the hand-bell choir and an adult small group at their church. Kelly serves as a board member of the Grand Oaks Band Booster.

Erin graduated from Baylor University in 2004 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Education. After moving from her home state of California to Texas she was offered a great opportunity to do bookkeeping allowing her to be a stay at home Mom. Overjoyed to be joining the staff here at Home Place she is discovering daily what true joy at work can be. Erin loves spending endless afternoons cuddling and playing with her three children Lily, Charlie and Annie. She is an avid reader, crafter and master kids party planner. She is an active member of The Junior League of The Woodlands and is involved with her church, Bammel Church of Christ, and Northland Christian School where her children attend.

Aaron Ramirez
Book Keeper & Program Coordinator

Aaron Ramirez graduated from Baylor University in 2015 with a Bachelor's of Music in Church Music. In search of what came next, he stumbled upon Home Place of Texas, where his perception of joy in life has been changed by its clients ever since. Through formative experiences on international music trips and local homeless ministry, Aaron has developed a passion for mission work. One of his greatest joys in life is serving with his wife Stephanie, whom he met teaching music in Malaysia.  Aaron passes his time reading, drinking coffee, and hanging out in dog parks with his wife’s best friend, Maple, the dog.

Jennifer Clouthier

PROGRAM COORDINATOR

I started working at Home Place in 2018. In December of 2020, we adopted our son, Julian and I chose to stay home with him full-time. I was so glad to return to work in August of 2022. I received my Masters degree in Speech Pathology from Nazareth College of Rochester, New York. When I’m not at Home Place, I enjoy being Julian’s adventure buddy, teaching ESL classes at my church and cooking for my family and friends. My favorite thing about Home Place is the relationships we build with each person who attends. I enjoy getting to know them and how they learn best. One fun fact about me is I have four children and there are 24 years between the oldest and the youngest!

Kelly Peterson

PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Kelly Peterson is not new to Home Place, but is a new addition to our HPOTx family. She holds a Bachelors Degree of Science in Gerontology and a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis in Special Education, both from the University of North Texas. She, her two sons, Major and Gage, and Lola the Labrador are residents of Champion Forest. Major is attending LSU and Gage is a student at  Klein High School. Kelly has been our dance teacher for almost four years now and when an opening became available, she jumped at the chance to join the HPOTX family. She fondly remembers attending a parent meeting in 2019 where she came to introduce herself to the families and clients and to discuss her approach in adaptive dance. “I remember sitting on the back row and thinking to myself what a special place this was and how much I wanted to make an impact here.”
